About Dr. Gaines

Dr. Gaines was Chief Neuropsychologist at Westborough State Hospital, MA from 2005 to 2010. He currently performs neuropsychological evaluations at Worcester State Hospital for the Department of Mental Health, and in several local clinics and schools. He has obtained board certification in clinical neuropsychology through the American Academy of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He has written and published on learning/memory in Alzheimer’s, Vascular Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis and psychiatric disorders. Metrowest Neuropsychology, where he is Clinical Director and Senior Partner, reflects Dr. Gaines’ desire to build a private practice committed to exceptional neuropsychology services. This means developing an exceptionally qualified team; using gold-standard testing techniques; providing the best, most user-friendly reports available in a timely and cost-effective manner. He has special interest and expertise in elder capacity evaluations (for medical, financial and legal decision-making capacity). 


Dr. Gaines is a member of the American Board of Professional Psychology, American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, American Psychological Association, International Neuropsychological Society. He also holds a Doctorate in Philosophy (SUNY/Stonybrook), with an interest in Eastern traditions such as Yoga and Buddhism. Using this background, he applies Mindfulness to optimizing cognitive and emotional-behavioral health. Dr. Gaines is licensed to practice psychology in Massachusetts and Connecticut. In his spare time, he enjoys surfing, hiking, and spending time with his wife, son, daughter, family and friends.
